The Problem with Skye

My assistant Ruthie and I were talking the other day, and she mentioned that, with a new dog in the house, she has to figure out a way to keep the cat's things out of Skye's way. Skye has been exploring and finding everything. Unfortunately, the day before, the dog had found a 2-1/2 pound bag of salmon treats that were the cat's. Ruthie didn't expect that she would have to store everything away, as she had all her supplies stored in one place and hadn't had any trouble up to now. Now however, she decided to re-think the situation and see what she could do to tackle the challenge. She just needed a place where she could keep all the supplies together, and safely out of Skye's way. So, I put my thinking cap on and came up with a solution: a cat supplies storage pouch! I liked this idea so well, that I thought other cat lovers might benefit from it, so I decided to share it with you this week.

The Cat Supply Storage Pouch

You can store all your cat's grooming tools in this pouch, shot records, toys or just about anything you can think of; use your imagination. The pouch looks great hung on the back of the door, or for easier access, you can hang it on the wall. You can use any fabric you like. I used some of the new extra dish towels I had, and then I used a piece of my favorite fabric I had saved just for an idea like this. The cat pouch will help you get organized, and if you are short on space like I am now, you can find a back of a closet door to hang a few cat supply pouches.

Supplies and Directions

At least one dish towel or a piece of fabric that is any size you want this to be. I used a piece of fabric that was 24 inches long by 16 inches wide. If you use a dish towel, all you have to do is fold it, sew it and then make holes.
Get an eyelet kit. The one I found came with 25 eyelets and the tool you will need to make a finished hole. The cost is around $2.49
You will need a sewing machine, or a needle and thread (or fabric glue)
Now fold the fabric or dish towel in half, then pull more than half up so you can pin out 3-4 pouches. This will depend on how much room you need for each pocket. I like to use straight pins here.
Now you are ready to sew down the line, only so you have about 6 inches on the top end, this is where you will make your holes to hang your holder. All you do is sew right down the three to four division lines for the pockets.
If you cannot sew, then use fabric glue to make the pockets. Make sure you follow the directions on the glue bottle and let dry completely.
Take a pair of scissors and at the top, cut three small holes for your eyelets to go through. Then take the tool and eyelets, follow directions and VOILA! You're done. You can hang it up, fill it and now you are ready to go.

The Pouch is Fun

The fun thing about making the "Cat Pouch" is all the things you can store in it to make it handy for you. Here is a list of things you can store in your new cat pouch.

Nail clippers
Brushes
Pet wipes
Grooming mitt
Treats
Toys
Cat mouse with feathers
Vet and medication info
Items used daily: vitamins, supplements, meds
Emergency numbers

These are just a few ideas. I like to make a few of them and hang them on the back of a door, so I can reach in and get what I need, right at my finger tips. The Cat Pouch is great, especially if you do not have space for a storage box. Now all you need is the back of a door to store everything you need in one compact space.

This can also make a nice gift for a friend who may have just adopted a new cat or kitten. You can make the pouch and fill it with a few things they will need. You can even fill it with treats, and it is now ready for them to hang. The wonderful part is you made it and it came from you heart. Enjoy!
